Questions before models

Rebalancing starts with questions.

The same portfolio can mean different things for different people. A model should not speak before the human clarifies the wager.

What is the purpose of this portfolio?

What is the time horizon?

What amount of volatility can I emotionally and financially tolerate?

How concentrated am I willing to be?

Do I need income, growth, preservation, or optionality?

Are there tax constraints?

Are there positions I understand poorly?

How fast should any rebalance happen?

The right question can prevent a trade that is really just fear wearing a suit.
